Browser support policy
Keeping our experiences usable
Using caniuse.com
Caniuse.com lists a lot of browsers, including browsers with low usage within the UK. It Is, however, easy to filter the results. We pay attention to Firefox, Chrome, Chrome for Android, Safari, iOS Safari, and Samsung Internet. You may be able to use a feature as a progressive enhancement.
Testing
Test on every release
- Safari on iOS
- Chrome on Android
New feature tests and periodic testing
The following browsers are supported but have a lower market share. They should be tested periodically and for new features:
- Chrome on Windows
- Samsung Internet (only available on Android)
- Firefox
Which versions?
Most modern browsers are evergreen — they update frequently without asking the user. Safari updates along with the operating system. A significant amount of visitors are using older releases of Safari. We support the current version of Safari and the previous two versions. Chrome and Firefox update often but many users will be one version behind.
Don’t test
We expect giffgaff.com to offer a usable experience with modern web browsers that implement current W3C standards. However, it is not feasible to take the time to test everything. We do not test the following browsers:
- Baidu
- Blackberry browser
- Android browser
- KaiOS
- UC browser
- Puffin
- Opera
- Opera Mini
- Yandex
- Brave
- Edge
- Internet Explorer
Browser stats are always changing. This document will be reviewed and updated at least every six months to reflect data from Google Analytics.
